Shell (2020)
Pegs and Silk
Pegs interest me as a tool for physical interaction, within my specialism of tactile pieces designed to be touched. Can they be a method of construction, which when touched and moved, doesn’t result in destruction, but rather reconstruction and alteration of a piece?
Using just two materials to create a form, ‘Shell’ is an experiment made from pegs and plain silk. It began in 2017, but when in 2020 I injured my working hand, producing volume using pegs on silk was a task I could still do when I could not sew.
Seen here on display at my studio and in the exhibition 'The Water & The Boat'.
