Make A Point (2019-21)
‘Make A Point’ is an artwork made through workshops I ran with visual impairment charity, Synskadades Riksförbund. I travelled around Sweden holding workshops with members in Umeå, Luleå, Växjö and Kungälv as part of their ‘Skapa Loss’ project.
Using wooden buttons and cotton, we created words and phrases in punktskrift in response to cuts in LSS support. The resulting artwork is a protest piece. The seams binding each square together are placed at the front for audiences to navigate the work through touch.
We had planned to have a communal stitching workshop in which we sewed the work together with members. Unfortunately this was cancelled due to the pandemic. However, the piece is now finished and is hung as a public artwork at Almåsa Havshotell near Stockholm.
